Sam’s Club Enters Search Engine Optimization Business

It was hard for me to believe even with my own eyes mostly because of the initial shock of a national retail chain entering these online industries; apparently they see a huge market with the everyday Joe getting online. And it’s not just SEO, Sam’s Club is also selling pay per click advertising, web hosting, and site design. It reminds me of Sears selling roofs and vinyl siding.
Sam’s Club homepage is at samsbiz.com.
ian at conversationmarketing.com calls Sam’s Club a scam:
“Sam’s Club has thrown their hat into the SEO/PPC scam ring. In what’s becoming a weekly tradition, I’ve volunteered to point out why you’d have to be brain damaged to hire them”
Karl Ribas’s blog says Sam’s Club move online is just laughable.
“…from my good friend Gene Carbonell who just so happens to run an online store over at My Health Management.com. Gene and I are always talking SEM, and so when he received this email, he immediately forwarded it on to me… and I of course immediately began laughing.”
What is Sam’s Club’s online SEO presense hated? Fear? Jealousy? Linkbait?
In any case, the two bloggers I’ve quoted have already broken one of the top rules in business: never put your competitors down. They would have done much better to say: “Yes, Sam’s Club SEO is a great idea, I think you should try it, if we can be of any help, let us know”.
Some bloggers will do anything for a story. LOL
