Google Says Content is NOT King - Links, Links, and More Links Improve Site’s Ranking!
“Sites’ positions in our search results are determined based on a number of factors designed to provide end-users with helpful, accurate search results. These factors are explained in more detail at http://www.google.com/technology/index.html.
In general, webmasters can improve the rank of their sites by increasing the number of high-quality sites that link to their pages. For more information about improving your site’s visibility in the Google search results, we recommend reviewing our webmaster guidelines. They outline core concepts for maintaining a Google-friendly website.” - Google.com
The quote above is from Google’s page, How can I improve my site’s ranking? The quote is not taken out of context because there is no other text on the page, just some menu links.
Do you see Google saying that content is king (or even important?) in that quote?
Where in that quote does Google say “put unique, quality content on your site”?
Content is NOT king!
Google is telling it plain and simple; the one, single, most important thing that any webmaster can do in order to improve the rank of their sites is to increase the number of high-quality sites that link to their pages.
It’s about backlinks, stupid!
I know of one guy who had over 500 associates through some offline business club in his home town. He was very well know and very well liked in that club. Yet, he sat for endless hours at home trying to write useful articles for his dog kennels site. One day he “woke up” and while addressing the members of the club regarding financial matters, he mentioned the URL of his site. Result: within one week he gained about 400 backlinks most of which were PageRank 5 or better.
His content did not change, but his position in Google’s SERPs increased dramatically. He is very happy now.
