Port80 Switches to DOFOLLOW - Give Port80 a Good Comment & Port80 Gives You a Link
Current operating mode
‘Nofollow’ will be removed immediately from all comments.
Our thanks to Kimmo Suominen, author of the dofollow.php plugin.
Just over three years ago, 1/18/2005, Google introduced the nofollow attribute that HOARDS PageRank!
“From now on, when Google sees the attribute (rel=”nofollow”) on hyperlinks, those links won’t get any credit when we rank websites in our search results. This isn’t a negative vote for the site where the comment was posted; it’s just a way to make sure that spammers get no benefit from abusing public areas like blog comment,…” - Google nofollow
Yah, yah, sure, but, it also means that good commenters get no credit!
Good trackbacks, (a remotely sent comment), coming from friends and associates, died because of this Google innovation.
Google encouraged software developers, such as those at Wordpress, to include Google’s nofollow attribute in all hyperlinks in all comments by default, giving the blog admin no choice.
And Google encouraged Yahoo and MSN search engines to participate.
“We’ve also discussed this issue with colleagues at our fellow search engines and would like to thank MSN Search and Yahoo! for supporting this initiative.” - Google nofollow
Thanks for nothing Google.
Then along came Kimmo Suominen’s DOFOLLOW.PHP plugin for wordpress blogs.
Whew! Now, we can give credit where credit is due.
