Navigational Site Search Boxes

For navigational searches, the top result is the only result that matters. If you search for [NASA], it’s clear that you want to go to NASA’s website. Google realized that people sometimes want to go to a specific section of a site, so it started to include sitelinks, an automatically-generated list of popular places from a site. The links are not always the best, but they might save you a click and some time spent on sites that are difficult to navigate. - googlesystem.blogspot.com

Allen Stern of centernetworks.com brings up some interesting points regarding Google’s possible (evil) usage of these search boxes.

“…Seems like it would be easy for Google to slap an affiliate code on that search box for Amazon and generate another stream of revenue from users seeking products on Amazon?” - Allen Stern
