SEO is getting easier and easier everyday because the major search engines all but ignore the on-page factors. Nowadays, it’s all about links with relevant anchored text. Popularity, importance, and relevance are all judged by your incoming links.

Proof: People that get an article on the front page of Digg get tens of thousands of visitors. No SEO.

Proof: Usually, at least a few hundred of those thousands will link to the article. No SEO.

Proof: The same phenomenon happens with dozens of small Digg-like social sites. But even without any of them, a page that has fascinating, useful, interesting, funny, or controversial content needs no SEO at all. Just let the word out in a few forums.

Proof: As an experiment, purchase a PR7 link to your homepage and keep it for a few months, your page will rocket to the top of the SERPs.

Nevertheless, while we are waiting to hit the home run, we can do a few things:

Put the keyword in the URL.

Put the keyword in the page’s Title tag.

Put the keyword on the page somewhere.

umm, that’s about it.

Everything else is what you do when you having nothing better to do, (no date and no beer), but it won’t help you in any significant manner.
